How to Calculate Friction Loss

An introduction to friction loss and its effect on pumping system performance.

Friction loss occurs as fluid moves through piping and hoses, reducing the effective pressure available at the discharge point. Friction loss depends on pipe diameter, pipe material, flow rate and the length of the discharge line, and should be factored into total dynamic head calculations.
